The Mission of the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office is to effectively and efficiently enforce the rule of law throughout Bergen County, provide for the care and custody of detainees housed in the Bergen County Jail, provide a safe and secure environment for the administration of justice in the courts of the Bergen County Justice Center, to enforce orders issued by those courts, to assist police agencies by providing forensic and investigative support services and to educate and inform the citizens of the myriad of public safety issues that may have an impact on their day to day lives.

The Bergen County Sheriff’s Office comprises of The adminisnrtation Division, Law Enforcement Division, and Corrections Division.

The Bergen County Sheriff’s Office is the largest law enforcement agency in Bergen County. Comprised of more than 600 dedicated personnel, the Office’s responsibilities include a broad range of services and functions which assist the public, augment the county’s municipal police departments and safeguard Bergen’s judicial proceedings. With a population larger than that of many states, safeguarding the almost 1 million residents of Bergen County is a full-time job.

Homeland Security Unit
The Sheriff's Homeland Security Unit plays an important role in protecting the critical infrastructure of Bergen County. With six separate facilities spread out around Bergen County whose security is entrusted to the BCSO’s care, the Sheriff’s Homeland Unit plays an essential function.
K-9 UNIT
The Sheriff’s Office maintains law enforcement K-9 teams to assist the BCSO and law enforcement agencies throughout the state in a broad range of tasks and situations. Each K-9 team consists of an officer and a canine ‘partner’ that has been specially trained in a specific skill.
Sheriff's Operations
The Operations Unit serves as the "nerve center" of the Bergen County Sheriff's Office and is responsible for the coordination of most departmental activities. Its primary duties include responding to all radio, telephonic and data resources and managing telecommunications for the Sheriff's Office and the Bergen County Probation Department.

Court Services
All persons who enter the Courts Complex buildings are subject to security screening checks, which include: X-Ray of all packages, metal detectors and hand scanning of individuals for weapons.
Bergen County Jail

Prisoner Transport Unit
The Bergen County Jail holds more than 9,000 inmates during the course of a given year. Typically, each of those inmates will have numerous scheduled court appearances for arraignments, bail hearings and trial.
Detective Bureau
The Bergen County Sheriff’s Office Detective Unit has grown to become a rapid and reliable source of manpower, information, and technical assistance to every law enforcement agency in Bergen County, as well as the surrounding region.
Warrant Unit
One of the daily functions of the Detective Unit involves arrest warrant enforcement. Arrest warrants are received on a regular basis and assigned to teams of two detectives for execution.
Office Of Professional Standards
The Sheriff's Office's Office of Professional Standards is responsible for protecting the integrity of the department by ensuring compliance with the highest ethical standards, performance criteria and commitment to public service.
Bureau Of Criminal Investigation-crime Scene Unit
The Bureau of Criminal Investigations Crime Scene Unit (CSU) is an integral part of the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office, as well as the entire law enforcement community of Bergen County.
Body Worn Camera (bwc) Program
The Bergen County Sheriff’s Office began wearing body worn cameras (BWC) in 2017. Currently, all patrol units and K9 officers have body worn cameras in addition to several specialty units.
